A Gift from God

Friday afternoon… I was sick at my bed. My cell has started ringing and at the other side of the cellular line was my best friend's husband.
“Na mas zisi o Theodoros” told me. That was a wish but also an announcement.
Vasilis and Christina had just welcomed their first baby, their son.
Theodoros Aggouris has born on Friday 31 of March at 5:10 p.m.
Theodoros is going to be my God Son. I will offer him his name.

According to the Greek customs the God parent chooses the baby's name and announces it at the time of the baptism to the priest and to the people who attend the ceremony. Well, this is at the custom but that is not what really happens. The parents choose their child name and ask from the godparent to give it at the time of the sacrament.
Christina and Vasilis have chosen Vasilis father's name as name of their son. That is a way to continue the family name. Young Theodoros will have the same first and last name with his grandfather.
Well… if I would like to give him this name…
I have this privilege as the person who will be responsible to drive this boy to the Christianity route.

Christina and Vasili you have to beg me a lot…
Just kidding… do not worry… I like this name.

The happy family. Christina, Vasilis and Theodoros.

“Theodoros” means “Gift from the God” at the greek language and this child as all the babies who come in this life, is a gift from God.
A gift for his father's family as he is the first male baby, the man who will continue the Aggouris surname.
A gift to the mother's family as he is the first grandchild at the family.
A gift to Christina as her biological clock, as she said for more than 3 years, knocked inside her and she wanted to be a mom. Christina drove us crazy as she talked all the time about her desire to have a baby.
A gift to Vasilis… the happy father… he has now his descendant and something to calm Christina.
A gift to me… Every child comes in this life having his/her godparent and offers happy and luck to him/her as an exchange.

Greek tradition… Greek customs… Greek Orthodox religion… a chain that keep us close… that offers as the way to differentiate. It is not bad to be different. I do not believe to globalization. Each nation must keep its roots. We must learn to live and cooperate at the modern world but we must keep our traditions to diversify.

I am not a religious person. I have to attend a church liturgy for more than 8 months but I like to go to the church to pray… to ask help… to take the strength I need to continue my life.

Christina, Fotini and Theodoros

I am going to be Theodoros' God Mother and I made my flashback to my friendship with his mother.
First day at Technografico, the school for graphic designers and I have chosen to sit at the front desk for the first lesson, the History of Art.
Christina made the same move. She came to sit beside me at the front desk.
At the second year one of our professors told us that every year he knows from the first day at this school the students that will make the difference… the best of the class… the students that will succeed at this not so easy job. Those students are the first desk students. He told us that he had never gone wrong to this. He was right and with us. Christina and I have finished first at this class and after 10 years we can say now that we are good at our job and we have succeed to the carrier we have chosen.

We are different as characters, we have 10 years age difference and we like different types of men. We have chosen to make a carrier in different fields but from the first day we became the best friends. We have shared even the creative ideas we needed in order to finish our projects at the school… we still share them. No competition among us.

I missed the plane from Toronto in order to be at her wedding. She had expected me to be the Best of Honor for her wedding. I lost the airplane that time and she cried a lot. Sorry for that Christina… I cried also but I promised to her that I will be the God Mother for her first child and her first child came to life.
I was there today… I was at the hospital to give the first gift to my God Son.

Theodoros' first gift from his God Mother

Congratulations Christina… Well done…
