Protest March
(written on 29/08/2007)

The day looks better. We have started smiling again because the fires have started to withdraw and the sun smiles again at the Greek sky.

This war looks that is close to its end. The casualties are huge for the nature, the environment and the lost of human and animal lives. We have lived a nightmare but the morning has come again.

Unfortunately the rising sun brought in light the disaster… the catastrophe that came from the dark power.

I n five days of blazes, the destruction is so extensive authorities say they have no way of knowing how many acres have burned and how many people have been injured.

64 Greeks lost their life at the war with the wildfires and more than 3000 are homeless as their homes have burned.

Personally, as a Greek who has lived those dark days and have to face the day after the catastrophe I declare to all of my friends that I am really disappointed with the way that my country reacted at the fight with the war.

I haven't seen any organisation from the country and the people who govern us. At the time of the crises the generals (political leaders and fire fighting officers) were not ready to co-ordinate the fight with the fire. Nothing was ready. The people had to call at the TV channels to inform that they were in great danger. We have lived tragic scenes in front of our eyes watching TV all these days.

I would never forget the time that fires destroyed the area at the ancient Olympia . 4000 years… so many generations have kept the glory of the ancient world at this place and in our time… in this generation, we have left the light of the ancient spirit to shut down.

We, the Greek who use internet, have organized a protest march. We will be at 7 p.m. at the main squares of each town village or city to protest against the apathy and inefficiency of our leaders.

This is not a political move that organized by any political party. We will be there together, joined by our only concern which is our country.

As a Greek citizen I need to be sure that the money I pay for taxes would be used with the best possible way. I need to know that the tax money goes to protect our environment and keeps us safe under any catastrophe. I need to know that I can trust my leaders.

I will be there (at the constitution Square in Athens ) and I will be dressed in black as everybody because black is the color that covers my heart today. I will be there to declare that
I need a better Greece!
