The Protest March of 29 of August in Athens

On Wednesday night of 29 of August a huge amount of people wearing black colored garments gathered at the Constitution Square in Athens to protest for the non organized confront from the country of the recent disaster from the fires. It was a protest that started from us... the internet freaks... the Greek blogers and was spread with any electronic medium everywhere.
We gathered more than 10000 people only in Athens. The Constitution Square (Syntagma) had a black color because the black color was the main color there. Black at our garments black at our heart...

We worked passing at our pages what it was inside our minds... what we talked about in each of our conversation. We passed our concerns... our anger for all these black scenes we have seen in every place of our country. This summer was so bad as fires made their presence everywhere and we understood that we were not ready to face them. We were not ready to help the people who lost their fortunes, their homes, and their family at this without an end war with the fire.

It was a spontaneous moving. We had to do something. Silence will never brings a solution... We have learned this from our long year history.

We started to talk about the gathering in our blogs but this was speed by sms and emails everywhere. The people wanted to do something to show their disappointment and that was something... They decided to be dressed in black to show they were in grieve for the huge lost of forests, animals and humans lives.

The signs talk by themselves. no comments by me...
"Black Life, black nature, black motherland, black ballot at the upcoming elections".
And a truth that hurts... "Give a shit to the forest. It doesn't vote at the up coming elections"!
Even the back of the t-shirts were a good place to stick a sign. "Keep the last tree to be hang on it".
This sign seeks a commitment for the forests NOW
"Why you have burned my motherland?”
I believe that this sign verbalized what covered the heart of all of us who participated in this protest.
I enjoyed walking around and looking at faces and what happened in each corner of the protest gathering. It was amazing the creativity I have seen from the unknown people who wanted to express with their way that black color that covered their hearts.

Police was there and at the end found the easy way to disband us. We have started to be annoyed for the members of the Parliament. They need silence to accomplish their duty...

Anyway... I believe that this protest march is the beginning of a worldwide moving and the politicians must consider one more time the will of the unknown civilian who needs better organization from his/her country. No more excuses. We pay our taxes and we need the country to take care and be ready to confront the disasters and the people who suffer from them.
