Sailing with a ferry

On Saturday morning I embarked on "Express Athena" ferry to travel to Samos.
I carried all of you... all my friends, with me... at my thoughts.
I had all of you as a company and I want to share with you my memories from this trip... the ferry cruise to Samos.

8:30 a.m. the departure from the harbour of Piraeus.

Nice happy people with a big smile at their face. Their summer vacation has started and you can see th happiness at their eyes. The big companies of friends talk all the time. They talk about their plans. The beaches which want to visit during days and the clubs where they are going to share their nights.
Greek summers... days of youth!!! Unforgetable years. They will never forget these years.

The ferry looks like those buses of my school years. Do you remember those years?

The ferry starts its voyage at the Aegean Sea with very good weather. People sitting at the chairs of the deck trying to absorve as much sun as they could. The smell of the sea and the salted taste at the mouth...

First stop at Paros island after 5 hours travel. Beautiful island but I have never visited it. It is at my future plans spending some days there. All my friends have visited Paros and they have recommended it to me.
Second stop at Naxos, another beautiful island belonging at the Cyclades group of Aegaen islands.
Third stop at one of the Ikaria island's harbour, at Evdilos . Ikaria belongs to the same prefecture with Samos. Those two islands plus some smaller islands, the Fourni, consist the prefecture of Samos at the governmental administrative level.

After 12 hours travel during the sunset's time the ferry gets in at the waters of Samos.
What a feeling to be so close to the home land. Looking the big mountain that comes as the first image of the island. It is the Kerkis mountain... One of the highest mountain at the Aegean islands.

Passing from the area that my uncle, Nicos, lost his life after the sunk of his boat I sent him my big Hi. I do this every time a passed from this area going and leaving the island. I have written a blog about him. It is the " A soul that sails at the Aegean Sea ". He is always in my mind.

The sky was red the time we entered at the harbour of Karlovasi, at my home town.
All my senses enjoyed this first touch with my island. Everything over there smiles to me... My island welcomes me.

Check my blog from time to time. I plan to show you this wonderful place. I did it again on May and you can visit my blog " Samos, my paradise " for a small introduction of the island during spring time.

For my friends...

Fasten your belts to enjoy Samos. I plan to show you as much I can from this dreamy place.

I will finish this blog with the lyrics of a song. It is a song that Greeks wherever they live, in whatever place they have grown up know to sing and dance. It is a song for a woman from Samos. It is the song of Samiotissa (that is what a samian woman called in greek language)

Samiotissa, Samiotisa, when are you going to come to Samos?
I will throw roses at the beach, Samiotissa, to come and welcome you.
